What is a super moon?

A supermoon is not a fixed astronomical concept. Colloquially, however, it is used to emphasize the larger and brighter appearance of the moon. The fact that the moon appears up to 7 percent larger than usual is because it is in what is known as perigee. This means “proximity to earth” and describes the shortest distance between the moon and the earth.

Since the moon orbits the earth in an elliptical manner, the distance between the moon and the earth is constantly changing. Apogee, or “distant from Earth,” is when the moon is furthest from Earth in its orbit. In such cases, one also speaks of a mini moon. On average, the moon’s distance from Earth varies between 356,410 and 406,740 kilometers.

What effect does a supermoon have on Earth?

The gravitational pull of the moon is largely responsible for the tides on earth. At full or new moon, the gravitational forces of the moon and sun trigger a larger tidal range – the difference between high and low tide – than usual. During a super moon, the tide is therefore significantly stronger than average, this is also referred to as a so-called spring tide .

When is the next super moon?

The next supermoon is expected to be on August 1, 2023 give to admire. The full moon is at its closest distance from Earth Aug. 2 at 7:52 a.m morning in Germany.

what is a blue moon

The idiom refers to the rarity of an event, which is also the explanation for the adoption of the term in German usage. A blue moon is when there are two full moons in a month.

How does a lunar eclipse happen?

When the earth moves between the sun and the moon, a lunar eclipse can occur. The moon moves through the shadow of the earth and is eclipsed for a few hours. Depending on whether the moon moves through the umbra or only the penumbra of the earth, there is a total or a partial lunar eclipse. In the latter, only a gray shadow lies over the moon, it is not completely darkened.

When is the next lunar eclipse?

The next total lunar eclipse will not take place until March 14, 2025 instead of. There is another one in the same year 7th of September.
