Water robbery & drought: Europe’s largest wetland withers

The air on this spring morning is cool and clear, it smells of wild herbs, in the distance around 50 deer graze peacefully, in between white spoonbills, a kite is circling high in the sky over isolated cork oaks. The birding participants of one of the many excursions in Europe’s largest wetland, the DoƱana National Park on the Costa de la Luz in southern Spain, are enthusiastic.
