Overweight is not just overweight, which is hard to overlook when dealing with obese patients every day. For example, says Matthias Blüher, there are women who only gain weight during the menopause – even though they never had any weight problems before. Or people who actually only get fatter under stress. In his obesity outpatient clinic at the University Clinic in Leipzig, however, there are also patients who do not need such triggers at all. Because they have been carrying too many kilos with them since childhood.
