Protection of species: Is the World Conference on Nature failing because of the dispute over money? – Knowledge

When negotiators from almost 200 countries meet in Montreal at the beginning of December to negotiate a global nature conservation agreement, they could experience déjà vu. As at the climate summit in Egypt that just ended, the dispute over money in Canada threatens to block the search for solutions to the actual problems and prevent a breakthrough. A financial gap of 700 billion dollars gapes like a deep ditch on the already rocky road to more global environmental protection. If no compromises are found on the financial issue during the two-week conference, the plan threatens to fail species extinction and stopping the destruction of nature on the planet at the last minute.
