Medicine: Doubts about studies by Nobel Prize winners – Knowledge

Duplicate images and other mistakes: More than a dozen studies involving geneticist Gregg Semenza have already been withdrawn, and more are being investigated.

Retracting scientific publications for which one was once celebrated is one of the most unpleasant things in a researcher’s life. Geneticist and Nobel laureate Gregg Semenza has had to do this 17 times so far – assuming the journals in which the now questionable articles were originally published didn’t do it for him. Overall, according to a report in the science journal Nature the integrity of 52 professional publications with Semenza’s name on it. They were all published between 2000 and 2021, some in very prestigious journals.
