The West Virginia State Penitentiary is one of the most notorious prisons in US history. This is where the most dangerous criminals were imprisoned. But the rising crime rate in the 20th century led to overcrowding in the prison: Designed for a few hundred inmates, more than two thousand people were locked up here. The result was brutal outbreaks of violence. Also in this episode: a derelict art school in Cuba commissioned by Fidel Castro.
