The Guardian says that 16-year-old environmentalist wonder Greta Thunberg has given wannabe environmentalist wonder Leonardo DiCaprio the environmental seal of approval. Possibly. Leonardo met with Greta, because even if you aren’t a real climate crisis person you definitely have to get a picture with her. I’m sure they talked all about green house gases and corporate greed, and how the leather seats on the private jet he rode over to meet her could’ve really used some shining. …Or at least the first thing.
Leo put a picture up of the two of them to his Instagram, calling her “a leader of our generation.” Which is true. If you can inspire Jane Fonda to purposely get arrested for the cause? That’s some inspirational leadership. He wrote:
“It was an honour to spend time with Greta. She and I have made a commitment to support one another, in hopes of securing a brighter future for our planet.”
So I checked Greta’s Instagram and Twitter and there’s no mention from her of meeting Leo and agreeing to support him… Guess she wasn’t as excited about the meeting as he was? This is the girl who turned down a $52,000 environmental award because “the climate movement does not need any more prizes,” so I feel like her and Leo are on two different waves? But with that being said, it was nice of Leonardo to say those words about Greta. I’m also hoping that the people around them as they took that picture threw him eyes that screamed, “Get that environment-saving super couple idea out of your head, because I know you just realized that Greta turns 18 around the same time your current piece reaches geriatric age.”
